Graflex Super D 4x5   item #G4

Excellent condition, purchased from original owner's estate. The son of this person said his dad was a Cadillac dealer in Detroit and purchased it from Bass Camera in Chicago.

I have owned it for about 25 years and only used it once. Basically, I thought it more of a collectable than a user since I already had several Graflex Series D 4x5's that I can use.

Lens: Kodak Ektar 190mm F:5.6

The lens look good with some spots or dust and has always had the yellow filter on it that it came with, which protected the lens. The lens door does shut with the filter on. Although the lens is removable, the lens board must be somewhat expanded because I never could remove it. I just read about this problem with the Super D's and the solution is to remove the lens from the lens board so you can get a better grasp of the lens board to lift up. Folks, I never really ever a had a reason to remove so I let it alone. If you want to remove, it can be done. I always assumed that there was a hidden lever to flip and could not find it. Now I know.

With the longer focal length of the Graflex Single Lens Reflex system, they used longer lens and are sought after for portrait photography. The image background is thrown out of focus, yet, these older lens have more of a slightly soft focus and your subject really comes alive without the annoying sharpness of a modern lens. That's why they sell modern soft lens for most every format.

The Focal Plane Shutter speeds may be off, although easy enough to adjust for after shooting some film. I tried the shutter and it seems to work OK, about the way they always worked when I would take pictures with it. However, the camera is around 75 years young and may need cleaning, oiling, maybe a overhaul and is sold 'AS IS". I would not recommend for heavy duty shooting, its more for collecting.
